West Virginia Association of Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling (WVASERVIC)

WVASERVIC, a division of the West Virginia Counselors Association, fosters and promotes spiritual, religious, and ethical values in the delivery of counseling services.  We are a young division, still getting organized.  Our mission is to promote the spiritual diversity and development of counselors and clients through education and workshops celebrating the cultural context of West Virginians.  Following the model of the national ASERVIC, we support the exploration and expression of spiritual, ethical, and religious values at personal, professional, and community levels.

Spiritual values are integral to the human experience, and are often an untapped (and potentially intimidating) influence for counselors.  Spiritual influences can promote or complicate one’s individual growth.  It’s our desire to foster awareness of and familiarity with spiritual and religious values for positive growth in the therapeutic encounter.

ASERVIC has developed a list of competencies designed to assist the helping professional best address the spiritual and religious issues in counseling. These competencies can be found by clicking here.

Workshop presentations on spiritual values are currently in development for future West Virginia Counselor Association conferences.
