Presenter: Dr. Jerica Wesley, WVCA Social Justice Committee Chair
July marks Minority Mental Health Month, a time to elevate the voices and needs of historically underserved populations. This session equips counselors with tools to address disparities, practice cultural humility, and build affirming relationships that support healing across diverse identities.
Objectives:
Participants will recognize the influence of cultural identity, systemic oppression, and intersectionality on clients’ mental health experiences.
Participants will evaluate their own cultural worldview and implicit biases, and understand how these may impact the therapeutic relationship.
Participants will integrate cultural humility into assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and case conceptualization.
Further instructions for accessing this training (via Zoom) will be sent the day before the event.
1.5 CEs will be available for counselors, social workers, psychologists/school psychologists, and addiction/prevention professionals.
